Skin Cancer Treatment

Whether you’ve noticed a changing mole, received a concerning diagnosis, or need expert evaluation of a suspicious spot, timely skin cancer treatment can be lifesaving.

At Lucid Dermatology, our team of skilled dermatology experts provide comprehensive skin cancer diagnosis and treatment for patients. With a commitment to accessible, high-quality care, we’re here to guide you through every step of your treatment.

Types of Skin Cancer We Treat

Our experienced team and surgeon partners diagnoses and treats all forms of skin cancer, including:

  • Basal Cell Carcinoma: The most common type, often appearing as a pearly bump or persistent sore
  • Squamous Cell Carcinoma: Frequently presents as a scaly patch or firm nodule
  • Melanoma: The most serious form, requiring immediate attention and specialized treatment
  • Other rare skin cancers: Including Merkel cell carcinoma and dermatofibrosarcoma

Treatment Options Available

Your care plan will be customized based on your specific diagnosis. We offer the following treatment options.

Surgical Excision

Surgical excision involves completely removing the cancerous growth along with a surrounding margin of healthy tissue to ensure all cancer cells are eliminated. This procedure is performed under local anesthesia and is highly effective for most types of skin cancer. The removed tissue is sent to a lab for examination to confirm complete removal and determine if additional treatment is needed.

Mohs Micrographic Surgery

Mohs surgery is a specialized technique that offers the highest cure rate for difficult-to-treat skin cancers. During the procedure, thin layers of tissue are removed and immediately examined under a microscope until no cancer cells remain. This precise, layer-by-layer approach preserves as much healthy tissue as possible, making it ideal for cancers in cosmetically sensitive areas such as the face, ears, and hands.

Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy uses liquid nitrogen to freeze and destroy precancerous lesions and certain superficial skin cancers. This quick, in-office treatment is particularly effective for actinic keratoses and some early basal cell carcinomas. The treated area may blister and scab before healing, typically within two to four weeks.

Electrodesiccation and Curettage

This two-step procedure combines scraping (curettage) and burning (electrodesiccation) to remove select small skin cancers. After numbing the area, your provider scrapes away the cancerous tissue with a curette, then uses an electric needle to destroy any remaining cancer cells and stop bleeding. This treatment works well for low-risk basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas in appropriate locations.

Mole Removal and Cancer Prevention

Suspicious or changing moles require professional evaluation, as they may indicate melanoma or other skin cancers. We perform thorough mole examinations and can remove concerning moles for biopsy. Regular full-body skin checks help catch potential problems early, when they’re most treatable.

If you have multiple moles, a history of sunburns, or a family history of skin cancer, routine monitoring becomes even more important for your long-term skin health.
